Sneak Teaching by Grant Pylkas

Welcome
The world is not as safe as we all thought when we were growing up. We are no longer working one job for a lifetime as our parents did. We are no longer sending our kids to small, neighborhood schools that are safe places where we know the teachers and the principal. Sneakteaching is about the world your children are growing up in and how it works for them.

Sneak Teaching Book Cover

Two young stoners find themselves caught up in a series of events which they can't control. Both boys, joined at the hip by a lifelong friendship, are faced with decisions which they didn’t bargain for when they started using drugs to get the girls and enhance their social status as the cool guys.

The story showcases the teacher “P” as an observer and interpreter of life’s lessons. His struggles as a teacher who is determined to find his own destiny, offset against the unreasonable control freak Dr. Fritz, contrasts two views of education and the art of teaching.

The plot is an adventure that welds the fate of a savvy drug pusher to that of the two boys and to a principal bent on the dismissal of a teacher whom he views as a threat to his power. The weaving of the paths in and out of each other’s lives with, sometimes, raw face to face contact is the way of life at Northwest High. The effects of events are demonstrated as the fates of the characters are played out against their motives and desires to control each other.

Reviews of Sneak Teaching
So you think you know what goes on in our public schools; read this very well written book to find out how little you really knew. These characters will help you understand why our schools are not turning out the highly educated graduates that we had hoped for. The murky world of the drug dealer and his victims is brought to life by this writer and he exposes the deadly distractions which cloud the lives of all teenagers in this country. The influence which the drug trade (one of the most profitable businesses in the world) has on your children is clearly examined through the eyes of a teacher for your viewing in this well put together story.

About the author Grant Pylkas
Grant Pylkas

A teacher at Tartan High School in the Twin Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Grant has taught college, middle school, and high school for the past fifteen years. In his youth he was a homebuilder and operated a Dairy Queen.

Receiving a Masters Degree in both Management and Education, Grant has long been an advocate for children. He has served on the Board of Directors for Dakota County Technical College and has taught in the College of Education at the University of Minnesota.

Having a passion for teaching has been his calling card. After attending the "Teaching for a Change" summer conferences every June for the past seven years, he finally found the inspiration to pen his first novel, Sneak Teaching.

He is the father of three grown daughters and has been married for thirty-plus years to his "first wife," as he would say.

He has had, at this writing, some thirty years of sobriety with the help of athe supportive Minnesota recovery community. The writing of this book was driven by the need to share with the world the reality which he experiences every day when he walks through the portals of a large high school with a hope and a desire to have an affect on the lives the most afflicted students.
